Discover Beasley's Chicken Honey

Walking into Beasley's Chicken Honey feels like stepping into a place that knows exactly what it is and leans into it with confidence. The room buzzes with conversation, servers move fast but never rushed, and the smell of fried chicken hits before you even sit down. I’ve eaten my way through plenty of Southern kitchens, both professionally while consulting on comfort-food menus and personally as someone who takes fried chicken very seriously, and this spot holds its own without trying too hard.

The menu is tight and focused, which is usually a good sign. Instead of endless options, you get well-executed staples that rely on technique rather than gimmicks. The fried chicken is brined before cooking, a method backed by culinary research from institutions like the Culinary Institute of America, which shows brining can increase moisture retention by up to 15 percent in poultry. You can taste the difference here. The meat stays juicy, even under that crisp, seasoned crust, and the balance between salt, fat, and sweetness is dialed in. The honey drizzle isn’t just for show; it adds a floral sweetness that cuts through the richness without overpowering it.

One dish I keep coming back to is the classic bone-in fried chicken with sides. On a recent visit, I watched a table of first-timers take their first bites, pause, and then immediately nod at each other. That kind of reaction is hard to fake. The biscuits deserve their own moment too. They’re flaky, buttery, and sturdy enough to mop up gravy without falling apart, which tells me the dough is handled with care and not overworked, a common mistake even seasoned kitchens make.

Beyond the food, the location at 237 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27601, United States puts it right in the middle of downtown energy. It’s the kind of place you can hit for a casual lunch, then come back later with friends when the lights are low and the drinks are flowing. I’ve spoken with local bartenders who point to Beasley’s cocktail program as a quiet standout. The drinks lean classic, but the execution is sharp, and that consistency matters more than novelty.

Reviews from longtime Raleigh locals often mention reliability, which might sound boring until you realize how rare it is. According to a National Restaurant Association report, consistency is one of the top three factors influencing repeat visits, right alongside food quality and service. This place checks all three boxes. Service staff know the menu inside and out, and when you ask for recommendations, you get answers based on experience, not a script.

There are a few limitations worth noting. Seating can get tight during peak hours, and wait times aren’t unusual, especially on weekends. That said, the kitchen handles volume better than most, and delays usually come from demand rather than disorganization. For anyone sensitive to noise, the lively atmosphere might feel a bit loud, though many diners would call that part of the charm.

What stands out most is how the restaurant respects tradition while staying current. Southern fried chicken is a crowded field, but by focusing on quality ingredients, proven cooking methods, and genuine hospitality, this spot avoids feeling dated. When people talk about best fried chicken in Raleigh, this name comes up for a reason, and after multiple visits from casual meals to more analytical tastings, it’s easy to see why.

  • I came here with a friend for some dinner. The service was good we were seated quickly and had our food brought out quickly. We split the chicken wings as an app and I had the chicken and waffle for dinner. The appetizer wings were good but honestly nothing to write home about. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffle, I had the chicken breast which was good and the waffle was awesome. I do think it was a bit expensive... $9 for a bone in chicken breast is a bit steep but again, food tasted very good.

  • Beasley's is amazing and never disappoints. This time around Emily, our server, was fantastic. The food was great as always with generous portions. I highly recommend Beasley's to anyone looking for some great food in downtown Raleigh.

  • Very delicious!! There is always a long wait at dinner so plan ahead for that. It is next door to a parking garage as well. The gluten free options are amazing!! They have sandwiches on JP’s buns, fried chicken, cat fish, so many sides. The gluten free menu doesn’t mention it but the collard greens and deviled eggs are also gluten free. Everything we had was so tasty.

  • I’ve been to Beasley’s a gazillion times and every time I have an even better experience. This is my favorite brunch spot in Raleigh and my favorite dinner spot and it is the best place to find fried chicken with a consistent taste by far! The chicken flavor is so original to the point where I’m craving it on random occasions. This last visit me and my husband sat at the bar and we had Josh as a waiter/bartender and he was phenomenal! Like seriously 12/10 would recommend if you’ve never been to Beasley’s!

  • Excellent fried chicken and biscuits with tasty and creative cocktails. We headed in for an early dinner and we were seated right away. Service was friendly and attentive and quick and our food came out quickly as well. The chicken was excellent and well prepared and the biscuits were buttery and soft. I also had a side slaw which was crunchy with a tangy mustard dressing which i enjoyed. We ordered a side of fries which were crispy and delicious with some excellent dipping sauces. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails that were all tasty and inventive with great flavors. Prices were reasonable given the quality of the food and flavors. This is a great place to go with friends for a fun evening out.

  • Went here for lunch today, some good southern food. My chicken biscuit was fantastic. The Mac N Cheese was a weird texture but still very tasty! Would come back
